Iphengenia
Alice Lee strides suddenly into the space as a poised yet brittle Clytemnestra, immediately enlivening proceedings with a powerful – if disappointingly brief – performance. Explaining the oppressive conditions of her forced marriage to Iphigenia’s awful father Agamemnon, she speaks movingly of her now utterly forlorn hope that she could have somehow provided better lives for her children.

Lee’s chillingly deadpan corporate cynic in the final vignette – all the more discomforting after Lee opens the play as the appeasing, lilting restaurant owner with a fixed merchant’s smile.

The script is mostly in English with passages of Mandarin and Cantonese... Alice Lee plays the mothers of all three characters... changes in character are skilfully performed so there is never any confusion.
